It is of course written by the master of horror Stephen King, so we are already quite excited about what is on offer, but with Elevation we have King at his oh so weird and oh so pleasant.Įlevation is not a straight out horror, let me get that on the table before we start. Its slim volume makes it a perfect read for a short flight.Elevation is a great book. With both believable and likeable characters, the book is a pleasant read. The writing flows smoothly and it's as immersive as all his books. Maybe the book has a subtext of America rising above their previous prejudices. With his clear insights on politics in America and all the fodder the government has given him, one expects him to possibly take a political stand with his books. The tale is more uplifting than scary and it seems surprising that Stephen King would choose to release this book around Halloween. Slow acceptance seems to be the central theme of the story. Used to being badly treated, the woman is very defensive despite the friendly attempts of the protagonist.

The main focus seems to be on the town's bad treatment of the new couple who have moved in and the town avoiding them. Though the stress of the issue is constant, it doesn't seem too scary and one can almost feel that it's been given too much weight.

They both puzzle over the issue, which only accelerates as the story progresses. The story starts with him visiting the town's retired doctor with a problem that seems to be beyond the help of science. The story's protagonist, however, is a person with a few flaws and a mysterious ailment. Set in a fictional town called Castle Rock in Maine, King once again proves he's brilliant in capturing small-town America with all its small-minded people with good intentions and deep prejudices. Though he is known for writing horror, this book has no supernatural creature haunting it, though it still contains one inexplicable element which is what brings all the main characters together. Elevationis Stephen King's latest book and a swift uplifting read.
